Friends of Yellagonga was successful in obtaining a grant to rehabilitate a section of burnt out bush south of Neil Hawkins Park. The area comes under the responsibility of the Joondalup City Council. The funds are sufficient to allow weeding and planting of local provenance plants both sides of the path with an emphasis on the riparian zone East of the path. The area is used by turtles as a nesting site.
A further area South of the bushfire has been prepared for planting. It is hoped to compare the results of planting in a fire affected site with a non fire affected area.
Joondalup City Council have offered to spray re emergent weeds in the spring of 2012.
