A fire that burnt through 3.5ha of bush and vegetation in Joondalup today is being treated as suspicious.The arson squad is investigating the fire that started about 9.30am in Yellagonga Regional Park between Lakeside Drive and Upney Mews. The blaze has been contained, but is moving slowly in a westerly direction towards Lakeside Drive. Fire crews are back-burning in the area to help prevent the fire from spreading.
Joondalup residents have been warned to be on alert for signs of fire as emergency services try to put out the blaze. No homes are under threat, but residents are asked to be aware of changes. The Fire and Emergency Services Authority has issued bushfire advice to locals to close all doors and windows and to turn off evaporative air-conditioners. Motorists have been warned to avoid the area and reduce speed when driving through smoke.Lakeside Drive between Upney Mews and Neil Hawkins Pass has been closed.
Firefighters will continue to work in the area and residents are advised to take their advice.
